All the songs we've pooled together are on the website I am afraid, I don't think I can help you with your quest, but I am sure that another member who has the episode recorded might be able to pin point the song name for you.

A good tip is to type the lyrics you here into Google, welcome to the forums.

I believe that song is called 'start the motor' by extreme music library. If you require any more song titles you should check out http://home.earthlink.net/~bigfitz79/Malcolm_Music.html
as mentioned in the vc.:D
I didn't notice the new song added, I have now added it to the main VC as well, so hopefully no one will have to ask the name again! :D We have gained permission from bigfitz to use his data on our site, so all the music is listed with its episode.

A song from 4x17

Hi, I'm a noob in this forum and I have a question about a song that I listen in episode 4x17 "Clip Show #2", when Lois and Hal are talking about who will die first, we can watch a flashback about Lois and Hal are very angry, Hal run behind Francis and he bite him. Do you know the song's name or the band who plays this song¿¿

Thanks.

P.D: I'm sorry if my english isn't quite good

Welcome StudeMarion, we hope you enjoy your stay.

I have merged your thread with this old one. I'm pretty sure the song you are after is this one. (see attached mp3 clip)

Now, things get a little complicated. All over of the place (including here) it seems to have been identified as Start the Motor by Extreme Music Library (Hans Zimmer)

This was identified over at http://home.earthlink.net/~bigfitz79/Malcolm_Music.html which is the best Malcolm music source. Normally its very accurate.

Now, Extreme Music Library (http://www.extrememusic.com/) is basically a service where people making films/tv can buy music for use in them (not for sale to normal people). If you go on the http://www.extrememusic.com/ and click "Get Trax" you can search for Start the Motor. You will find a track you can listen too, and as you will see its not the one we are looking for. Also its made by "Beamish" not "Hans Zimmer" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Zimmer)

Maybe they got the track name wrong but its still made by composer Hans Zimmer? (who does have work on http://www.extrememusic.com) Well no, If you listen to his work its nothing like the track we are looking for.

I've done a bunch of looking around and can't find anything. So basically we have no idea. There is a big possibility that it is just a "sound effect" and that no "band" made it, in which case we will probs never find it.

If you need any help you can email me.

Sorry I didn't see this post.
This song not sound like the song of the episode because the episode's song I listen a electric guitar and the song of extreme music is electronic.
When the listen the song I think sounds really good and I want to know who create this song and I like to listen other songs like this but it doesn't matter.

Thanks.

Florian, please read above, 'Start the Motor' is NOT the song from the episode. Hence why it doesn't sound the same. We have no source for the actual sound. Most likely just a short sound effect. So not a song.

Sorry; but i´m from spain and i need your help. I need the song from this scene from "New Neighbours" episode:
Cut to the street the next day, where Malcolm is walking home from school, being watched
closely by all the neighbours, including a mother who is accompanying her son who is riding his
bike. They have all heard the rumour about Malcolm sneaking around.
Malcolm: (TC) This has been going on for days! I can’t believe everybody fell for Josh’s
stupid lie! Maybe if I just ignore him for a while, he’ll go away. I’m pretty sure my
memory’s right!
Thanks for reading me!

Hi Lobo29,

Welcome to our boards! I wonder if that's a real song. I think you mean the echoing electric guitar picking with a phasing (aka flanging) effect? The end credits still mention They Might Be Giants as the authors of the soundtrack, so I'm guessing it's incidental music written by them just to fill a gap.

However, bits and pieces by They Might Be Giants sometimes turn out to be part of songs. It's not identified by either Joe G. or Malcolm France (the usual suspects), so right now I think it's just incidental music by them.

Joe G.'s listing:

http://home.earthlink.net/~bigfitz79/MalcolmMusic.html

Malcolm France's Jukebox:

http://malcolm-france.com/jukebox/

Perhaps some diehard TMBG fans could work this one out?

I just attached the music clip as an mp3.

Rich

You're welcome! Thanks very much for the compliment at any rate! It sure helps to get a positive reply now and then .

If you have a smartphone or work on an Apple platform, the Shazam or SoundHound apps might work to recognize the tune. I used Tunatic in the past, but this won't work on the more recent Windows versions.

I've been listening to a lot of late '90s-early millennium They Might Be Giants albums lately, but I haven't been able to identify the tune.

The trouble is, TMBG have a huge backlog of songs, demos and snippets, also because they operated the Dial-A-Song telephone service from 1983 to 2006. This meant you could phone into songs and bits they had just recorded, and quite a lot of songs went through various versions. So this could have been, let's say, from another early version of their track Older, but it's hard to tell.

Just to give an example, Rat Patrol started out a-cappella on Dial-A-Song:

until it became a totally different kind of Guns N' Roses hard rock parody on their album:

So unless you are familiar with this enormous back catalogue, it's anyone's guess!

Best,

Richard
